Vacancy for PhD studies and scholarship
The computer music team at the University of Plymouth's Faculty of Technology is
looking for a highly qualified graduate to pursue a PhD in the field interactive music
systems, focusing on Brain-Computer Interfacing (BCI) for musical systems. A brain-
controlled musical device is of great interest to both entertainment and therapeutic
industries.
A scholarship is available on a competitive basis, conditioned to the potential of the
candidate to conduct world-class research. The scholarship will cover the University
fees (UK/EU rates; overseas will have to find other sources to cover the difference in
the fees) plus a stipend of £10.000 per year, for three years. (It is expected this will
rise to & £11k in year 2 and £12k in years 3 in line with the UK research councils’
stipends.)
Candidates will have a music technology background, with good grasp of
algorithmic composition techniques and real-time interfacing. Good programming
skills are essential (e.g., Matlab, C/C++, Max/MSP/Jitter, etc.). Experience with
biosignal processing and/or EEG is highly desirable.
