1. ESRC One-Year Research Fellow
The Working Lives Research Institute at London Metropolitan University has
a vacancy for a one-year Research Fellowship to work on an ESRC funded
research project with Professor Anna Pollert on ‘The Unorganised Worker,
Individualism and Collectivism: Routes to Support and Views on
Representation’. The research explores the experience of non-unionised
workers in the private service sector. You will have key responsibility
for the qualitative research and contribute to managing the project, data
analysis and writing up. You will be expected to have experience in
conducting qualitative research and have excellent communication and
listening skills. Experience in manipulating quantitative data using SPSS
or a willingness to develop basic skills is desirable. You will have a
broad understanding of issues around precarious work, trade-union decline
and employment rights. You will be self-directed, work well in a team and
able to organise a demanding research programme. Ability to process
information and to write effectively is essential. The post is ESRC funded
for one year and is based at the Working Lives Research Institute, London
Metropolitan University North Campus. Any continuation will depend on our
attracting new funding. Salary : Research Fellow scale
(£20,850-£31,239) to a current maximum of £23,628 (including London
Allowance). Closing date: 17 February 2004. Interviews will be held on 25

2. European Social Fund/Acas: Ethnic Minority Work Problems Research Fellow
The Working Lives Research Institute at London Metropolitan University has
a vacancy for a two-year Research Fellowship to work on an ESF/Acas funded
project ‘The Experience of Ethnic Minority Workers in the Hotel and
Catering Industry: Routes to Support and Advice on Problems at Work’. We
are looking for a Research Fellow with a strong track record of
qualitative research to work with Professor Anna Pollert and manage this
project. Any continuation will depend on our attracting new funding.
Salary Research Fellow scale (£20,850-£31,239 pa). Closing date: February
17 2004. Interviews will be held 24 February.
