And here is the wording of the advertisements placed in The Guardian Newspaper and Times Higher Education Supplement this week:

************************************

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the leading universities for research in Art and
Design in the UK. The Art & Design Research Centre (ADRC) is the largest research
grouping in the University and our highly experienced and accomplished team
achieved a 5 rating for Art and Design in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.
We are now looking for two outstanding Professors to build on our success and
expand our national and international reputation.

************************************
Professor and Head of the Art & Design Research Centre
Ref: 537/03

An exceptional researcher in fine art or design with proven leadership skills, you will
be of clear international standing in your field. You will be capable of leading research
in a practice-focused research environment that is recognised for its innovation and
high levels of achievement.

Offering an exemplary publications record and a track record of innovation in your field
of research, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our current research
strategies, and will need to provide evidence of how you translate vision into effective
action. You will also demonstrate a commitment to cross-disciplinary research and be an
active networker at an international level in your field.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a pre-requisite, along with experience of
budget and project management and external fundraising. You will also need to demonstrate a
visionary approach to furthering research across art and design, and within your specialist field.

**********************************
Professor in Fine Art and Deputy Head of the Art & Design Research Centre
Ref: 538/03

A recognised researcher with an international standing in your field and experienced in a senior
position within academia, you will provide leadership and contribute to a highly experienced and
accomplished team of fine art researchers. You will bring a strong vision of research and research
management, including external fundraising, to support the Head of the ADRC.

Mentoring skills are an essential requirement, as is the ability to develop and communicate a
vision of research. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of research issues within
your specialist field and across fine art, which is consistent with our research culture that
emphasises the centrality of practice within research.

For both roles, a research degree is desirable, though not essential and you should have
experience of managing and directing research degree students.

**********************************
Further information and application forms are available from the
Human Resources Department, Sheffield Hallam University, City Campus,
Howard Street, Sheffield S1 1WB, UK. Telephone +44 (0)114 225 3950. Please quote
the appropriate reference. Closing date: 12 March 2004.
