just to clarify things re this conversation, while Mike Oliver was certainly publishing stuff from 1978, neither Colin Barnes nor myself were. And I'm not sure that you can say that Mike's most important work belonged to the 70s - The Politics of Disablement was published in 1990. Colin's Disabled People in Britain and Discrmination was published in 1991 (and as far as I know his only publication prior to that was Cabbage Syndrome in 1990). My first publication Able Lives was in 1989 and Pride against prejudice was published in 1991. We may all feel ancient but are not that old! However, it's lovely to know that people are still finding what we wrote useful. In terms of answering the original question, I seem to remember that there are a few relevant articles in recent years in Disability and Society but can't remember by whom but it would be worth looking in their indexes.
PS, I agree with the comment re Robert Murphy's book - it's very interesting and thought-provoking and well worth tracking down (as a result of poor proof-reading it was missed off my list of references in Pride against prejudice)
