My name is johnny briggs, a first year PhD student at the university of
Notitngham. In brief, an aspect of my project will involve attempting to
reconstruct decay pathways of a miocene peat and quantitatively show how
volumes of methane production changed over time. Comparison with the
marine carbon isotope record and isotopic analysis of the coal itself may
show a link between mire expansion (decay pathway), and the global carbon
and climatic system. However, it would be nice to be able to incorporate
the ability of peat bogs to act as both sources and sinks of atmospheric
carbon through time into a model of the global carbon cycle. I have not,
however, been able to locate models/papers which incorporate peat bogs
into the global carbon cycle. Does anybody know of such a model and/ or
paper?
Thanks a lot
