We have been nominated as one of the 4 pilot sites in the first wave in the Kent,Surrey and Sussex Deanery. Our pilot is for the full twelve months. We have three SHO, who will each rotate between ITU, General Practice and Emergency Medicine.

On the one hand this will free up time from the interview processing but on the other hand we will have no say in who we get. The Deanery may also be sending us overseas doctors with no previous experience in the UK, although we may be spared this if only F1 ( first foundation year ) is made mandatory and A&E is in F2.

On a positive note I've heard that in future when new Foundation Year rotations are organised then year 2 will also be funded. There will have to be a significant increase in these rotations in the next few years in view of the increase in graduates. There is a 38% increase in graduates feeding through the system.
