Reaching Out
The UK's biggest annual language teaching event, Language World, is at the
University of Oxford from 2-4 April 2004.
The theme of this year's conference is "Reaching Out" - what innovative
methods and approaches can we use to reach new learners and motivate
reluctant ones? How can we innovate by adding a creative international
dimension to our teaching? What's new in information and learning
technology and how can we use it to make language learning even more
attractive? What's happening in the world of early language learning?
There will also be keynote talks and plenary sessions looking at the
progress of the recent National Languages Strategy for England and how
policy is developing in this area.
Speakers from the UK and Europe will be reflecting on the position of
languages in the 21st century, the role of language teachers and the
enriching effect of languages within the education system.
With a full three-day conference, a one-day event in parallel, over 80
sessions covering all educational sectors from primary through to lifelong
learning and the largest UK exhibition (Friday and Saturday) of materials
and resources for language learning, Language World is the major event in
the language teachers' calendar. Added to this we have the attraction of
the Examination Halls of Oxford University (not normally open to the public)
as a conference venue with accommodation in Oriel, one of the oldest of the
Oxford colleges. The social highlights of the conference will be an evening
reception at Oxford University Press (including a tour) on Friday 2 April
and the candlelit conference dinner at Oriel College on Saturday 3 April.
