Subject: Re: Local Government and LAWS categorisation
The issue about classification and web related content interests me greatly.
If we have a web based classification system for web related content and
then use that structure to populate an electronic based classification
solution (suitably amended to included the missing areas in the LGCL) then
we will be using the same bat at both ends thus consistency and accuracy
will be much bettter served. This solution also assists in terms of
sustainability in that web facing solutions will be able to benefit from
future uses of xml in a live environment given the links are common in
fileplan builds.
My concern is that if we use different classification at document
production to that at web publication, the ability to populate via xml
direct to web content will become much more difficult and accuracy may
become an issue. I hope we can produce data at the electronic build point
and then directly populate web content through xml from the record created
and not as a copy to any cms.
I am involved with other RMS members in developing a generic classification
solution which is not reliant upon the LGCL, so options for local
government are developing. I think the argument is to achieve best fit for
your organisation, commonality of solution is very much a locally based
decision. However, if local government is interoperable in its electronic
structures (unlikley!) so much the better for its customers.
