Search for Program Director
The University of South Florida invites applications for the position of
Director of the School of Physical Therapy which is transitioning to a
DPT program in 2005. The candidate will be a visionary leader who can
take this young program with a strong academic base, to excellence in
scholarship, education and clinical practice. The candidate should
possess strong grantsmanship and research skills to support faculty in
research and the generation of funding; administrative experience in an
academic medical center environment, clinical experience relevant to
administration of the Physical Therapy Center, and the ability to build
strong collegial relationships within the Health Sciences Center, the
broader University, and the local physical therapy community. Search

PROGRAM DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a post professional
doctoral degree and an outstanding record of leadership as well as
teaching and scholarly accomplishments appropriate for appointment as a
tenured full Professor in the College of Medicine. Florida physical
therapy license or eligibility is required as is current membership in
the American Physical Therapy Association. Prior experience is
preferred in a multi-disciplinary academic medical center, demonstrated
leadership and management competencies are expected, together with a
nationally recognized reputation in the area of physical therapy.
Appointment at the rank of Professor requires at least five years of
active and sustained participation in College of Medicine or equivalent
activities as an Associate Professor and evidence of academic
accomplishment and scholarly productivity.
Responsibilities: As Director of the School of Physical Therapy, the
incumbent will report to the Dean of the College of Medicine and assume
responsibility for leading the school to a position of academic and
professional excellence. The program director will provide leadership to
a dynamic and experienced physical therapy faculty as part of a
comprehensive Health Sciences Center comprised of the Colleges of
Medicine, Nursing and Public Health. The physical therapy faculty
consists of ten academic faculty and four clinical faculty; recruitment
of four additional faculty is planned with the commencement of the DPT
program. Specifically, the director will be responsible for managing
department fiscal and human resources; fostering excellence in
education, research, and patient care activities; recruiting and
retaining a diverse and talented faculty; and contributing to the
reputation and overall welfare of the School, the College and the
University. In addition, the director will be responsible for
development of strategic planning and implementation of resources in
pursuit of the School, College, and University missions.
