NATIONAL AUDIT OFFICE: Expressions of interest sought
Literature Review of the Social Fund
The National Audit Office (NAO), the independent body that reports to
Parliament on how public money is spent, is currently undertaking
preliminary work on the Department for Work and Pensions’ Social Fund, with
a view to publishing a value for money report by November 2004. The report
will focus on the discretionary Social Fund and will examine issues such as
the standard of decision-making, the management of debt and the
administration of the system.
We are aware of the extensive literature on the Social Fund and its impact
on claimants. By commissioning this review we hope to establish what
previous research has found with regard to the issues under examination.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge
in this area and submit a review of up to 5,000 words in early April 2004.
The review may be used as an appendix to the overall report and will be
drawn upon in other key areas of the study.
If you would like further information on the report, or to express an
interest in tendering for this work, please contact Barbara Rodgers on 020
