Social Science Data Archives: creating, depositing and using data
Friday 2 April 2004
Wolfson Suite, Main Library, University of Edinburgh
A one-day workshop jointly organised by ESDS and Edinburgh University
Data library. The workshop is in two parts.
The morning workshop considers the creation and depositing of
qualitative and quantitative data - a requirement of all ESRC-funded
research award holders. Issues relating to research planning, consent
and confidentiality, and data management will be addressed. Breakout
sessions will be used to enable participants to raise and discuss any
specific issues relating to their own projects.
The afternoon workshop will provide participants with the opportunity
to explore how data sources held by ESDS can be used in
research, teaching and learning: resources include the large-scale government
surveys, such as the General Household Survey and the Labour Force Survey,
academic surveys, qualitative in-depth interviews and international macros
databanks produced by intergovernmental organisations such as the World Bank,
International Monetary Fund and the United Nations. Hands-on exercises and
tailored demonstrations will allow participants to explore ESDS online data
access systems.
There is a charge of £10 for the morning workshop and £10 for the
afternoon workshop. Participants can attend either or both sessions.
