I am aware that academic colleagues and others may have done small
bits of local work with local authorities on issues to do with the
social fund. Hence this request for help in tracking down material
which may not be in the public domain. Any material warmly welcomed.
Gary Craig and researchers at Hull University have been commissioned
by the LOcal Government Association to explore the impact of the
social fund on local government in particular and, a subsidiary
interest, clients of local government social and other services. At
this early stage, he is seeking any reports which may have been
written from the perspective of local government (not voluntary sector
or charitable bodies), for example about numbers of people helped to
get social fund awards, etc. He anticipates that this may take the
form of council or committee reports, memoranda, internal documents
rather than full-blown reports but he would be pleased to have
anything relevant to this issue, and covering any time period since
the fund became operational, much preferably by January 31st but later
if necessary. Please send any material to him at the following
address:

Thanks for your help. The DWP is apparently planning a reviw of the
social fund and the LGA is anxious that it can present a strong case
for change.
