Dear colleagues,
I am a podiatrist who enjoys relevant discussions on this site, and I have a question regarding a area that overlaps our disciplines.
I am due to give a lecture to non medical people about podiatry which will include our usual advice not to hold babies up on their feet and/or make them 'walk'. I know this is bad for propioception development, and have heard it can actually delay progression to normal walking, as well as leading to problems in gait when they do walk. However, I am not totally sure of my facts, and am asking if some kind physios could fill me in on exactly what the problems are, and if you are aware of research that backs this up that I can study myself.
Also, the issue of baby walkers, baby bouncers is one to add the above questions too.
I would be very glad of any replies.
Yours
Andrew Tindall
