During February and March the Technical Advisory Service for Images (TASI)
offers a wide range of digital imaging workshops in several UK locations.
Courses cover image capture and optimisation, putting images on the Web,
using digital cameras, metadata, and digital rights management. Venues
include Bristol, Wolverhampton, and Newcastle upon Tyne.

- IMAGE OPTIMISATION - Correcting and Preparing Images - Thursday 12
February, Bristol
Introduces skills required for correcting digital images and preparing them
for future use. This workshop will show suitable techniques and warn
against those that can degrade image quality.
- PUTTING YOUR IMAGES ONLINE - A guide for lecturers - Friday 13 February,
Bristol
A straightforward, practical workshop for those who want to use digital
images in their teaching but haven't the time or desire to become imaging
experts. Covers all the steps from capturing images to using them within
presentations, VLEs and Web sites. (Uses Adobe Photoshop, Extensis
Portfolio and an HTML editor. Suitable for beginners)
- GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA - Tuesday 9 March, Bristol
A practical workshop for those wanting to produce better quality images
using a compact digital camera. Covers general camera skills as well as
issues specific to digital cameras. Topics include colour, calibration,
white balance, lighting and image optimisation (using Adobe Photoshop).
This workshop is suitable for beginners and includes advice on what to look
for when choosing a digital camera.
- IMAGE CAPTURE - Beginners - Thursday 18th OR Friday 19th March,
Wolverhampton
Provides an introduction and overview of digital imaging and includes
practical exercises using a scanner and digital camera. (These workshops
will use Paintshop Pro software)
- CREATING QUALITY METADATA FOR DIGITAL IMAGES - Tuesday 30th March,
Newcastle upon Tyne
To the uninitiated, metadata can seem a dry and complicated issue. This
workshop takes a lively and practical approach. It considers metadata
schemas and controlled vocabularies and looks at how these can be used,
pragmatically, within a comprehensive metadata framework for an imaging
project.
- DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT - Wednesday 31st March, Newcastle upon Tyne
Offers practical approaches to securing and protecting copyright within a
digital environment.
