£11.2m is being made available to help reduce health inequalities in Wales,
Health Minister Jane Hutt announced today.
The funding follows advice from the Townsend Standing Committee on Resource
Allocation on the allocation of funding to the areas of greatest need.
£10.2m of the funding will be allocated to the following ten areas:
£2.2m for Caerphilly Local Health Board
£1.8m for Torfaen Local Health Board
£1.5m for Neath Port Talbot Local Health Board
£1.2m for Rhondda Cynon Taff Local Health Board
£1.1m for Swansea Local Health Board
£0.9m for Carmarthenshire Local Health Board
£0.7m for Blaenau Gwent Local Health Board
£0.3m for Merthyr Tydfil Local Health Board
£0.3m for Flintshire Local Health Board
£0.2m for Newport Local Health Board
Jane Hutt said: "This funding reaffirms the Welsh Assembly Government's
commitment to tackle inequalities in health. It will be used for areas of
greatest need and for investment in community health schemes, some in
partnership with local authorities and the voluntary sector.
"I have also earmarked an additional £1m for 2003-04 for targeted
investment in health inequalities taking the total to £11.2 million. This
will provide an opportunity for those Local Health Boards who have not
received an allocation to submit bids for funding."
Note
Detailed allocations and guidance on the bidding process are included in
WHC (2003) 28.
