Dear all
Just to clarify further what free data people can expect to access -
the policy is NOT to offer free access to the databases such as New
Cronos. The databases provide very detailed information and time
series which can be tailored to customers exact requirements. This
remains a value added service available from the datashop network
against payment, or by subscription to the database (expensive!).
What Eurostat is offering free is access to the new presentation of
1000 tables of data on a wide variety of themes. The tables usually
give a time series of one decade. Additionally all the PDF
publications which were previously for sale through the website or from
agencies, can now be viewed or downloaded free of charge. For
privileged users such as EDCs who had a password, this means that we no
longer need to act as intermediary and login our students. They can
now access the material directly themselves.
Hope this makes things clearer.
