Dear colleagues
As you may know, I'm Chairman of the EIA this year and in that role would
like to tell you about the Association's annual conference in Edinburgh on
26 and 27 April.
As you might expect in 2004, our theme is changes in Europe, including
enlargement, the proposed new constitution and the upcoming parliamentary
elections - but we're looking at all these issues from the angle of the
information specialist. What are the information strategies of existing and
future Member States and how are they keeping their citizens up-to-date?
What are the information mechanisms put in place by the EU institutions to
deal with expansion and what are some of the practical problems they must
overcome (the increase in languages for example)? There are also practical
workshops looking at key information sources on the new Europe and "exchange
of experience" sessions on how to make the most of joint projects and
training.
And, as at any good conference, there'll be plenty of opportunities to
network with your peers from both existing and new Member States and make
contacts for the future, especially at the conference dinner which will be
held at a really interesting venue on the evening of 26th!.
We've also organised two training courses at the end of the conference so
you can make maximum use of your time and travel.
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and there's plenty to see and do there
including the marvellous castle, medieval Old Town, Royal Mile, Scottish
National Gallery and plenty of good shops! You might want to visit the city
the weekend before the conference and we can arrange accommodation for you
if you do.
There's more detailed information on our website at
www.eia.org.uk/events.htm <http://www.eia.org.uk/events.htm> plus if you
book before 29 February, there's a 30 euro discount on the full delegate
rate.
I do hope you'll join us in Edinburgh and I look forward to seeing you
there.
