To the suffering of disabled Iraqis, add the suffering of Iraqi children,
women, and men who have become disabled as a result of the war and are
suffering from the impact of depleted uranium(DU)-tipped weapons (first used
in Kosovo and then in the 1991 Gulf war and now). DU leads to birth
defects(including babies born without heads), cancer, etc. Most of these
people do not have access to health care thanks (sic) to the economic
sanctions and the wars. Most people also forget that DU affects US veterans
who have now started to speak out. Here are two links that are appalling (of
course many more exist if you care to search for their stories - many more
yet untold of unspeakable misery).

http://electroniciraq.net/news/1290.shtml
Let's also not forget the half a million innocent Iraqi children who have
died as a result of the U.N. imposed (U.S. orchestrated) economic sanctions
on Iraq
Why don't we hear of these disability rights (or their gross violation)
stories? Because, of course, the six o'clock news in the U.S. does not tell
you these stories because mainstream media in U.S. is itself
corporate-controlled
e.g. General Electric (GE) owns NBC and GE is also the biggest manufacturer
of weapons.**A few alternative media sources appear below**
And of course, everyone is supposed to be scared because there is the U.S.
Patriot Act [written before 9/11 but hastily passed in Congress without any
debate post 9/11(check out www.aclu.org for more info)] which gives them
power
for increased surveillance - including internet and phone monitoring, the
books we check out of the library, our medical records, credit card records,
etc, etc, etc. especially for people who are different by virtue of
nationality, skin color, religion, ethnic origin - or those who simply care
to speak their minds against injustice.
Sure, talk of rights, but let's expand the discourse
Vanmala Hiranandani.
**Alternative sources of information (that are not corporate
controlled) - that at least give some critical
analysis that the mainstream media in the U.S. is so lacking:
