READER IN URBAN SOCIOLOGY
Salary up to £ 42,092 pa inclusive
Applications are invited for the post of Reader in Urban Sociology in the Department of Sociology. The appointment will be from 1 September 2004.
LSE Sociology is committed to empirically rich, conceptually sophisticated, and socially and politically relevant research and scholarship, building upon the traditions of the discipline, and playing a key role in the development of the social sciences and their application to contemporary societies.
As part of the development strategy of the Department, we wish to appoint a leading international scholar who will work with our very successful Cities programme, developing its engagement with urban sociology, supporting a group of highly able research students from a variety of backgrounds, and developing a programme of research. A key feature of our programme is its commitment to engage sociological approaches with architecture, urban design and planning and to link theory and practice. Applicants will also contribute to the teaching of urban and spatial issues in other programmes in the Department. They should have a commitment to the importance of spatial issues in sociology, a strong record of significant publications and an active engagement in empirical research.
