LTSN Subject Centre for Geography, Earth & Environmental Sciences (LTSN-GEES)
Embedding Personal Development Planning (PDP) in the GEES Curricula
Tuesday 23rd March 2004, School of Geography, University of Leeds
An LTSN-GEES workshop in association with the School of Geography, University of Leeds
What is the event about?
Personal Development Planning (PDP) becomes compulsory in 2005 for all courses in UK Higher Education. Many academics and students in GEES departments have been working with PDP for some time. The conference therefore aims to enhance the quality of PDP in GEES courses, to strengthen embedding in the curricula and thereby to improve the learning experience of GEES students, and their preparation for the graduate labour market. This conference provides a unique opportunity for practitioners from GEES departments to collaborate and network on these issues. So, if you have ever wondered how other disciplines and departments are dealing with the PDP agenda, this is your chance to learn from their experiences - or to present and showcase your own! The workshop will be interactive allowing GEES colleagues to work with new PDP materials for use in their own departments.
Specifically, the event aims to:
* introduce GEES colleagues to a range of PDP resources;
* raise students expectations of the value of PDP;
* give GEES colleagues an opportunity to locate and/or showcase PDP materials in their own curricula;
* highlight the connections between PDP, business and employability;
* raise motivation for PDP amongst staff and students in GEES disciplines.
What is the Cost?
.....It's Free!!
As this event is being subsidised by LTSN-GEES, delegates will only be expected to meet their travel costs.
How Can You Contribute?
LTSN-GEES and the organisers are calling for short paper presentations (15-20 minutes) on how your department is embedding PDPs. If you would like to present, please complete the relevant section on the online form.
