In the US in the early 1920s, magazine articles discussed radio as a
valuable medium for public debate. Presumably this was an extension of
the image of newspapers playing such a role. In the 1930s and 1940s
network radio featured many public forum programs modeled on this image
of radio. Does anyone know about the roots of this image of radio or of
primary sources about such roots.
