FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

Invitation to the 35th EBSSRS symposium on
VALUES AND NORMS IN THE FIELD OF AGEING
September 30 - October 2, 2004,
Berlin, Germany
This will be the 35th international symposium organised by the
European Behavioural and Social Science Research Section of the IAG
(International Association of Gerontology). These symposiums have
been arranged since 1954 in the years in-between the IAG congresses.
Theme:
The central focus of the 2003 symposium will be on Values and Norms
in the Field of Ageing. Here it possible to address questions of
value continuity and transfer in living situations in ageing
societies, the impact of values and norms from the side of different
welfare state arrangements on the ageing experience, but also to
discuss the apparently increasing relevance of spiritual dimensions
and a change in religiosity as developed over the life course.
Format:
The symposium will take place over two and a half days with an
opening evening session on Thursday, which gives sufficient travel
time during the day. Number of participants should not exceed 70. The
participants are invited but not obliged to present papers. A few
invited speakers will contribute with plenary presentations while
submitted papers will be presented in two parallel group sessions.
Deadline for abstracts and registration is June 15th 2004, with a
registration fee of € 120
Venue:
The symposium will take place in Berlin. More details about the
location of the symposium as well as travel arrangements will be
mailed out later in the 2nd announcement.
