The Vocational Imperatives:
The Skills Strategy and the Adult Curriculum
Tuesday 16 March 2004, Birmingham
Aston Villa Conference and Banqueting
The conference is the first joint one offered by NIACE in partnership with the Centre for Labour Market Studies, University of Leicester.
In the context of changing skill requirements and recent Adult Learning Inspectorate reservations about the quality of current training, the conference will aim to explore the implications of the national Skills Strategy for the vocational curriculum for adults and, particularly, the implications for colleges and other training providers seeking to provide appropriate vocational courses, qualifications and pedagogical approaches. The conference will seek to explore the following challenges:
* How do we continue to ensure quality, achievement and progression in adult learning in the current context of the Skills Strategy?
* How do colleges (and other providers) make full contribution to national priorities, whilst safeguarding the diverse interests of their adult learners?
* Are we ready for the promised qualifications revolution?
The conference will be of interest to:
* College managers, and HODs especially those working in vocational areas
* Those responsible for adult programmes in further education
* Work-based training providers
* Trade Unions
* HE staff involved in vocational areas and working with FE and employers
* Education policy makers
