If your D5000 uses a standard tube such as the one Sieferd (SP?) use to
sell, there is a small screen inside the tube. Remove the tube from the
tube tower, there should be 4 screws on the plate; remove them and the
plate comes off. There is a small cylinder which has a slot on the bottom
(this is where the water flows onto the back of the anode). The cylinder
pulls off (this can take some effort; it is a snug fit) and there is a
small screen inside. It can be plugged by rust, scale (can be lots things
in addition to CaCO3), or biological material if something is growing in
your cooling system.
