Molybdenite is used as a lubricant in space craft so I doubt if freezing it
will help much.

Not sure if it would work, but did you try to freeze molybdenite? Put it in
the freezer's camera overnight and it would become brittle. Then hurry up
with the agate mortar.

than 'the usual' sample preparation advice. Does anyone have specific
experience with molybdenite sample preparation (and analysis) ??

want to analyse a molybdenite sample by XRD, but it is proving 'quite'
difficult to grind to a powder (it tends to smear - no surprise there, since
it's used as a lubricant). Would either of you know how you could prepare
such 'nasty' mineral for XRD analysis? Hand grinding in an agate mortar and
pestle hasn't achieved much (apart from dirtying the agate). I am also
resisting using the microniser until I am sure I will do more than just
dirtying the beast.
