1.30 - 2.00 Pauline Wilcox and Hilary Dexter, eLRC, University of
Manchester: JISC Framework Scoping Study and Service Oriented Architecture
--The first part of the talk will provide a brief overview of the work
recently
undertaken as part of the JISC Framework Scoping Study (FSS), noting key
outcomes of interest to Enterprise SIG members. A key part of this study was
to
review the services and projects offered by JISC across the e-Learning,
e-Research and Information Environment frameworks. This information gathered
has been organised into a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The main aim
of
this study was to help JISC understand what it has got *now* with a view to
supporting future planning, for example, to identify areas of duplication as
well as areas where there is a shortfall of services at present.
--The second part of the talk will look at how the SOA approach taken in
this
study aligns with the work that has been done by Scott Wilson, Kerry Blinco
and
Daniel Rehak (specifically their paper Service Oriented Frameworks:
Modelling
the infrastructure for the next generation of e-Learning Systems:

2.15 - 2.45 Jon Rowett and Pete Stone, Brockenhurst: SWEET.Net: A first
look
--Jon and Pete will discuss their experiences implementing the IMS
Enterprise
Services Web Services (ESWS) Spec on the .Net platform, and getting it to
interoperate with Java. They will also show how they are extending ESWS to
store and retrieve timetable information.
