Hello,
Tutors at Goldsmiths are beginning to use the Moodle Wiki feature, and
considering Miles' remarks:
>> The whole wiki idea looks very exciting from social constructivist /
>> Vygotskian perspectives
it's not surprising that there was early interest from our Educational
Studies department. For example, it looks very promising as an exhibition
space for some of the PGCE students - they are on placements more than
they're together so there are hopes that Wiki will make a good focal point.
The plan is that each student will link to their individual space from the
Wiki front page, and populate that as they wish (or according to predefined
objectives), including an area inviting comments from peers.

Abuses of trust - none to report yet. Inexperienced users could also do
unintentional things. Backing up regularly would limit the damage.
As for Wikalong - I think one opportunity with students / pupils would be
where informal peer feedback is given for work (projects?) routinely posted
on the web, but not in wiki format itself. Wikalong is really useful,
because it's highly contextualised - each web page has its own separate
wiki sidebar so people can see what is being commented on right alongside
the comments themselves. Incidentally, it doesn't look as if Wikalong
compromises the security of the restricted-access parts of Moodle - ie the
wikalongs for internal-only pages are internal-only too.
Best, Mira
