Dear colleagues - please draw this to the attention of anyone who may be
wishing to pursue a PhD.
PHD IN TRANSPORT AND SOCIETY
The Centre for Transport & Society at UWE, Bristol, will shortly be
advertising a fully-funded PhD studentship. Details about possible topics
will be forthcoming but we are encouraging individuals to come forward with
their own ideas as well.
If you are interested in applying (the studentship will be available to
start from 1 July onwards) then I encourage you to get in touch to explore
the opportunity further on an informal basis - in the first instance please
send an email with your CV.
CTS offers a lively, supportive and diverse training environment for
research students. We have staff from a range of backgrounds including
engineering, geography, sociology, philosophy, psychology and politics. The
Centre holds regular team meetings and internal research seminars as well
as running a reading group. Full details about the research we engage in
can be found on our website at www.transport.uwe.ac.uk. We currently have
six PhD students who are researching the following topics:
* travel behaviour change - opportunities arising from residential relocation
* understanding and addressing Dyslexia in travel information provision
* the role of ICTs alongside mobility in women's welfare
* urban congestion charging and the implications for equity and inclusion
* travel time use in the information age (commencing 1 July)
* new divides in personal travel arising from ICTs (commencing 1 June)
The Faculty of the Built Environment in which CTS resides is also
establishing a new Graduate School to be in place for the new academic year
- this will be a dedicated facility for postgraduate research and teaching
students which will further enhance the research training environment.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Glenn
