See the "Shuttle Services" chapter of our Online TDM Encyclopedia at
http://www.vtpi.org/tdm/tdm39.htm. It contains information on demand
response services, including case studies. Also see the Community
Transportation Association of America (www.ctaa.org).
Demand response tends to have high costs per trip compared with fixed route
transit service, and does not reduce energy consumption or pollution
emissions per trip, but is considered suitable to provide basic mobility in
lower-density suburban and rural areas, and to serve people with
disabilities who need door-to-door service.
