The Centre for Transport Policy, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen is
pleased to announce that it has been charged with leading the Transport and
Aviation stream within the newly created UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC).
The Centre, under the directorship of Professor David Begg, and including
Dr David Gray and the newly appointed Transport and Aviation Topic Leader,
Dr Jillian Anable, will carry out and commission research in transport and
energy use, liaise with industry and policy makers, develop a transport and
energy R&D project database and provide advice to the research councils on
future research priorities.
UTSG member institutions are advised to take note of this development as
they will be given the opportunity to:
• Provide information about projects and programmes to be included on
an electronic research portal providing specialist information on transport
and energy related R&D projects and data sources.
• Assist in the formation of consensus views of the problems to be
solved relating to transport and energy use and who is active in their
resolution.
• Bid for funds allocated by the UKERC for small projects identified
as necessary to ‘fill gaps’ in research on transport and energy.
Further information on these activities will be posted in due course. In
the meantime, Dr Jillian Anable is gathering information on the latest
developments in this field and would be pleased to hear about any projects
and thoughts about transport and energy related issues in general, and
specifically about reducing energy demand from transport and aviation.
