With the first anniversary of the big C coming in under a month, I wondered
if other pros and cons beside average speeds, and traffic volumes (motor cars
down, cycle counts up.
I gather that for taxi user trips the fares have come down - the journeys
thake less time, yet the earning potebrial for drivers goes up, as they can do
more trips per hour.
Have such changes been plotted alongside the obvious objective one of
reducing traffic volume? If so what are the 'alternative gains and losses from
introduction of congestion charges, which would influence the support that groups
such as taxi operators might give to implementation. We have car park use
going down (so that deals which include C charge payment have appeared) and the
retail lobby variously saying trade is down or up. Has it changed ownership &
use patterns for those who live within the zone (where car non-ownership is
already double that of the UK National average)
