Dear all, especially the colleagues in the US.
You may recall that two months ago the EU SYNTHESYS program was
launched. This is a 5 year program intended to facilitate the study
of museum specimens by taxonomists, especially the younger
generation. Currently, approx. 18 museums, which include all the
major European collections of tunicates, may offer the candidate
visitor a grant for travel and subsistence to a maximum of up to
two(?) months. Of course shorter visits are possible and preferred.
The grant applications are reviewed by local committees and are
subject to availability of funds etc. (you may be denied).
The NSF and the organizing EU consortium CETAF have come to an
agreement under which NSF can offer similar grants for US taxonomists
to visit SYNTHESYS museums. I attach the info to this message
(apologies to non-US colleagues).
Needless to say that the Zoological Museum of Amsterdam would welcome
the US colleagues.
Best wishes
