Variations in White:
The Day after the Snow of the Century
This storm touted as the largest since _
(You pick the year you remember
a snowstorm disrupted life.
For us, twas ninety-six,
snowed in seven days.)
This time's big deal?
Snow covered,
the dish
out!
*
Rain!
Snow
soaks up
the drizzle
like Uncle Fred takes
in Old Granddad with beer chasers.
The roof groans louder we've ever it speak heard before.
Hope it don't split like Olive's girdle after she gobbled pies at
Thanksgiving dinner.
*
Last summer, we took down the feeders in a vain hope,
the stray cats would go leave. Nope, six or seven
always watched the house or deck
until the big storm
drove them off.
No birds
though.
*
I
listen
eagerly
to the weather.
Cabin fever and nearly out of eggs.
*
Snowflakes
all different
until they melt to slush
and our Winter Wonderland flows
away.
*
The snowman
leans toward the ground
listening.
My hand held a snowball
until you scream.
*
white
except where evergreens
shake
