I may in fact tone down the reference to the dog - maybe that it awaits the
vet or something. I was so shocked about the sheep I didn't expect the strenght
of people's reaction to the dog's fate. The kind of thing that fills the
Radio Time's postbag I believe!
The end rhyme was something that came to mind as I was writing - I wasn't
sure it would work but thought I wait and see. I had in mind that the
identification with victim/herbivore was the focus of the poem (the drunk in fact not
dying but aggressive).
I'm not minded to avoid this sort of subject matter. As to whether it needs
to be expanded, I'll have to sleep on it. For a while probably.
