Gary,

As a list of wholesome snacks this has me reaching for the fridge. Would be
nice to
see maple syrup in there too BTW. It reads a bit like a poem that set out to
be a political poem but discovered something more tasty en route, and that
may be no bad thing for a poem sometimes.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter sandwiches are bland.

clover honey
plain wheat bread

Lena on the radio dial

chunky old-fashion
blackberry jam
homemade white thick-cut

Ella and Louie scat the levy

dill pickle
hot pepper jelly
banana
apple butter

Bo, Fats and Buddy rock the garage

bacon and lettuce
mayo on one slice
grilled

Dizzy shakes the juke joint

chocolate chips
white or semi
butterscotch
or even peanut butter
Wonder Bread and oleo

apple, apricot, avocado
watermelon rind

Miles trumpets heaven

peanut butter cookies
with stripes across the top
girl scout filled
and nutter butters

we were learned about peanuts
how George Washington Carver
created hundreds of foods,
from the humble goober:
sweet pickle, mayo, cheese cream,
sausage, mock goose, oil,
milk, vinegar, coffee, punch
and dainties

he was nearly the only Negro
taught in school or at least
I don't remember others
except maybe Fredrick Douglas,
Sojourner Truth, Uncle Remus
old Tom, Louie, and Al

history before lunch -
peanut butter sandwich
with grape jelly on white bread,
sugar cookie, apple and milk
