Hello Gary,
I like this very much, it has a lovely wistful tone. I love the
way the weather conditions are brought in through the side-door, so to
speak, in the references to wet windows and shattered city lights. I´m just
puzzled about one thing, why is the tramp steamer carrying children´s toys?
It seems an unlikely cargo, but perhaps it isn´t, or is there a specific
reason for the toys to be in the poem?
Mike, a play. The river is China, and in the real world the toys - Barbie,
Hot Wheels, et al, come this way instead of going there.
Smiles.
Thanks.
Gary
