A poem I have found and revised today
first revision may need more crits
Comfort Blanket
I found it in my mother's box
hidden under cotton sheets
scrubbed ragged by her fragile hands
and faded with the bleach of sun
like a jigsaw piece lost in my mind
it slotted childhood in a flash
and memories came floating back
like soapy bubbles, rainbow bright
with lullabies and fairy tales
and my rag doll called Betty Flop
I think of dainty little toes that warmed
upon the warm stone pot
as I watched lone candle's burn
that danced the shadows on the wall
then how I gripped on comfort cloth
when illness screamed within my throat
till mother came with soothing voice
to chase the demons from my bed
And now I hide it in my box
that ragged piece of cotten quilt
and save it for those stormy days
when sadness is too fierce to chase
it's then I take it to my bed
to warm me with my memories
to cling on like a ragged doll
like my Betty but without the flop.
