Gary, what on earth is '(I hate it when that happens)' all about? Is it
part of the poem? Sorry if that sounds utterly dumbo, but it's a genuine
question. Well, oh boy, I hate it when more or less the first thing I read
after
the title is an acknowledgement, particularly if I don't know what on earth
it
refers to.
Christina, a good question and more than valid comment. Hopefully, an
explanation: A group of Canadian poets who call themselves "Pain Not Bread"
have published a book *Introduction to the Introduction to Wang Wei.* Their
poems are not translations, but new poems that use Wang, Li Po and others as
a springboard for Pain's poems. When I started mine, also not a
translation, I thought the note was important. It turned out that the
direction the poem went, it is not.
Live and learn.

You wrote: But sometimes they feel so bloomin' listy and when that happens,
I'm inclined to switch off and almost certainly miss out in the process.
In this piece the first
line draws me in very well but then prejudice steps in when I notice the
wee
lists of three
**I'll post the rewrite, there are fewer "lists" - but still - too many?
Off to look.
Some of the list thing is to set scene. Moss would be one, toadstools
another. Does "moss and toadstools" provide a different image/mood?
Hmmm.
Smile and thanks.
