There are a number of notations that have been developed over the years, but
in comparison to other fields - for example choreographic notations - they
are fairly rudimentary, tend to concentrate on location, activity and
simplified categorisation of people into groups by gender, age or dress
code. I think there is considerable scope for development of notations to
capture finer scale aspects of body language and behaviour which at the
moment we only note anecdotally. I have recently applied for funding from
the AHRB to put together a network of performing arts people to discuss
exactly this possibility (amongst other things), and am waiting to see if we
get lucky...
