There is widespread agreement amongst those involved in social work
and social care on the need for a full discussion on the future of
social work, both nationally and internationally. 'Social Work and
Social Justice: a Manifesto for a New Engaged Practice' is a
contribution to that discussion. It was draw up by social work
teachers at Liverpool, Manchester and Stirling Universities and
launched at a meeting of 50 social work practitioners, students and
teachers in Glasgow in December. The Manifesto is available online
(www.liverpool.ac.uk/sspsw/manifesto) and the signatories are asking
those who agree with its aims and contents to sign up to it. The list
of signatories will then form the basis for local meetings, a
national network, a statement in the social work press and a national
conference later this year, based around the themes in the Manifesto.
Best wishes
