In and beyond New Labour: A Third Term?

This exciting one-day conference is being organised by the journal
Critical Social Policy as a follow-on from the highly successful
conference on New Labour held in 2000.
It will offer participants an important opportunity to contribute to
debates about the future direction of New Labour. In particular, the
conference will address highly topical issues such as the choice
agenda, trade unions, work/life balance, asylum seekers, participation
approaches, and welfare reform.
Keynote speakers will include:
- Yvonne Roberts (author and journalist)
- Ruth Lister (long-standing campaigner on child poverty)
- Heather Wakefield (UNISON)
- Jane Campbell (Chair of Social Care Institute for Excellence)
- Bill Jordan (academic and writer on welfare reform and asylum
issues) - John Clarke (academic and researcher on choice and
consumption) - Arun Kundnani (Institute for Race Relations) - Fiona
Williams (Director of ESRC research programme on care, values and
the
ethics of welfare) - Peter Beresford (long-standing campaigner on
promoting service user involvement)
There will be workshops on: community cohesion, asylum seeking,
children's services, mental health, work/life balance.
