1. Exhibition "RUSSIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS IN THE AGE OF TOLSTOY"
is now open in the National Gallery (Sainsbury's Wing),
in London
From 23rd June until 12th September 2004.
The exhibition features work by Savrasov (e.g. "The return of the rooks"),
Venetsianov, Shishkin, Levitan and Kuindzhi, showing lakeside and forest
vistas, awe-inspiring depictions of the endless Russian horizon, and the
hard struggle of peasant life in both summer and winter.

2. The documentary "THE RUSSIAN NEWSPAPER MURDERS"
will be shown by BBC4 on 6th July at 9:30 and 00:30.
Dir. Paul Jenkins.
It was filmed in the industrial city of Togliatti, where two
editors-in-chief were murdered over the last two years, and reflects on the
risks that journalists run in the tangled web of wealth, power and politics
in modern Russia.
