Response from Land Transport Safety Authority New Zealand
1. The National Land Transport Programme, which includes State Highway and local roading expenditure, safety enforcement and safety education, and passenger transport, is expected to total $NZ1.4 billion in the 2004/5 year. The total research programme will be of the order of $NZ4.5 million i.e. 0.32 percent of the total.
2. There are no data on the cost-effectiveness of the research programme, but funding is allocated according to strict, clearly-defined criteria, and projects are expected to deliver quality research outputs which contribute to the objectives of the overall research programme.
