For an intercultural research project analyzing the interface of science and
the public/politics in the fields "stem cell research" and
"epidemiology/public health" the Programme Group
Humans-Environment-Technology of the Research Centre Juelich (Germany) is
seeking a social scientist (sociologist or communication researcher) at the
post-doc level.
Candidates should have experience in social studies of science and/or
science communication (ideally both). They should be familiar with empirical
research methods, have a record of research and have published in
peer-reviewed journals.
Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written German and English. We will
consider applications of researchers with a first language other than
German, but it is essential that the candidates are able to conduct and
analyze qualitative interviews in German, perform an in-depth content
analysis of German media coverage and write project reports in German.
We offer a fixed term contract (full time) for 2 years, starting in the
beginning of 2005.
The Research Center Juelich (http://www.fz-juelich.de) is a major national
German research center with about 4,200 employees. It is located in the
countryside of the most western part of Germany, close to the small town of
Jülich. The cities of Cologne, Aachen and Düsseldorf can be reached by
public transport in about an hour. Amsterdam and Brussels are less than
three hours away.
