Science Demonstration Technician
Grade 3 £23,115 - £26,755 p.a.
The Royal Institution (Ri) has been at the forefront of public science
communication activities since it first opened in 1799. This new post is
part of a new technical team being formed to support the Ri's expanding and
wide-ranging activities programme. This role will provide specialist
expertise in supporting presenters and lecturers to devise and present
scientific demonstrations to illustrate and accompany the talks, events and
activities staged by the Ri. This will include content development of
schools, public and Friday Evening Discourse programmes and the Ri Christmas
Lectures. There will also be overseas travel involved to support the
Christmas Lectures productions in Japan and Korea.
The successful candidate will need to share our passion for public science
communication activities, be creative, have a good broad knowledge of
scientific theories and how these can be conveyed in easy to understand
ways, possess practical model making / experiment building skills, have good
customer/client awareness and demonstrate an ability to communicate well
with a variety of scientific peer groups.
