Apologies for cross-posting, the following may be of interest to anyone
promoting particle physics!
When it opens for business in 2007, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN
will be the world's most powerful particle accelerator, bringing two
proton beams, travelling at almost the speed of light, into head on
collision 40 million times a second. To help mark CERN's 50th
anniversary this year, PPARC has produced a new screensaver which
describes the LHC and its four mammoth particle detectors. It explores
the scientific questions they will tackle and anticipates some of the
major new discoveries the LHC may reveal, such as the origin of mass,
new supersymmetric particles and perhaps even the existence of extra,
hidden dimensions of space.
The screensaver can be downloaded from our CERN 50th anniversary web
page, where you can also see our amazing CERN fact of the week, at

Best wishes,
Julia
