Subject: [PSCI-COM] London Public Understanding of Science Seminar Series
List members may be interested in the following:
The first London Public Understanding of Science Seminar of this year will
be on Wednesday 28th January, at the London School of Economics and
Political Science, at 4.15pm.
We are pleased to welcome Adam Burgess (University of Bath) who will be
discussing work from his new book 'Cellular Phones, Public Fears and a
Culture of Precaution (New York: Cambridge University Press). Title and
further details below:
**********************************************************
The Social Construction and Diffusion of Mobile Phone Radiation Health
Anxieties
His book traces the history and development of microwave radiation
concerns, examining their international diffusion from the USA, and the
differing impacts these anxieties made in different societies. He suggests
it is only in a 'culture of precaution' such as the UK that such a 'phantom
risk' could have been taken so seriously.

The location will be at LSE as last year, Room S318, St Clements Building,
3rd floor, to the right.
