The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, is recognised internationally as a world leader in Antarctic Science. Our Antarctic operations and science programmes are managed from our modern complex of offices and laboratories on the outskirts of Cambridge. The primary role of the Press, PR & Education team is to communicate the work of BAS to a diverse range of people world-wide.
A temporary Press & PR Officer is required for 10 weeks while one of the team is in Antarctica. You will have a proven track record in media & public relations, be educated to degree level or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate strong editorial and project management skills. Previous experience in science communication is preferable.
During the 10 weeks you will work within a small professional team and be responsible for the co-ordination and planning a number of high-level corporate events, media relations and exhibitions.
You should fully describe your relevant experience in your application and say why you think you are suitable for this position. We hope to offer you an opportunity to further develop your PR skills and enhance your knowledge of science communication and media relations.
This is a full time position, working 37 hours per week to commence on 25 October 2004. Salary will be £20,800 to £25,690 per annum pro rata depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to this you will be entitled to paid leave at the rate of 25 days (pro rata) and flexible working hours.
