PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
This is a new position created to increase the communications activity of
this prestigious Cambridge based Institute. Full time post reporting
directly to the Communications Manager. Working as part of a
Communications Team, this team is tasked with the responsibility for the
development, implementation and overall management of the press, public
relations and web strategy for this organisation and to ensure the
Institute receives a positive and high profile within the media.
The Person
- You will need to to be a science and technology communicator with
experience in a Press Office
- Dissemination of information regarding activities to stakeholders
and to the press in a timely and factual manner
- Experience in dealing with journalists, and with both academic and
industry stakeholders, interviewing academics and industry partners and
writing good copy on scientific and technological stories that could be
complex in nature
- Respond courteously to enquiries from both the press and public,
even when occasionally hostile or challenging.
- Highly organised, possess initiative, able to prioritise workload
- Awareness of the US media is a distinct advantage
The Job:
- Research and create compelling press releases
- Responding to enquiries from the media
- Assist in the provision of news items for monthly e-newsletter and
website
- Assist with the update of corporate publicity material for
distribution at events
- Using media databases
- Occasionally provide briefing material for staff that are giving
interviews to the media
- Provide editorial advice and input into the preparation of
materials (some web based) – course guides, conference/event flyers,
marketing literature and direct mail campaigns
Salary: £23,000 plus benefits
