Applications are invited for a Research Fellow post in the University
of Surrey's Department of Computing to work on a major research
project entitled `Future Technologies for System Design'. The post
will commence in January 2005 for a period up to 36 months.
One goal of this project is to develop formal methods for codesign:
portioning a system's design into the most efficient balance of
hardware and software components while maintaining the system's
integrity. The project will also develop prototype tools for
supporting the approach.
Applicants will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of
research skills and gain a good understanding of software and hardware
systems through exposure to leading-edge research. Applicants must
have programming skills, preferably with experience of tool
development, and some knowledge of formal methods and/or hardware
design as well as a PhD or engineering background.
The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with the
Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston. Because of the
nature of the work undertaken at AWE, this post is required to meet
special nationality rules and therefore is only open to British
Citizens. We are not able to consider applicants who hold a dual
nationality. All selected candidates will be required to undergo
security clearance. The MoD rules state that in order to have access
to this level of information, candidates "must be British as defined
